A video of a white man punishing his son for calling a group of Black children the n-word has gone viral, sparking debate online.
The clip shows the man confronting his son after he allegedly called one of the children the n-word while they were playing together.
“Who’d you call the n-word? Get your a** over there and apologize,” the man says after the children’s mother explains what happened.
The boy allegedly said, “These n-words are messing with me!” after spending time playing ball and riding bikes with the children earlier in the day. The mother also noted that the boy had previously been welcomed into the family’s home.
“What happened from then to now?” the mother asks. “You cannot do that. I don’t know where you learned that word from or why you think it’s such a trigger, but did we treat you like that when you came to our house?”
As the boy looked down, his father told him to “Look up. That’s coward sh*t,” before ordering him to apologize to everyone.
Reactions to the video online were mixed, with some praising the father’s response and handling of the situation.
“Man, that’s so respectable, bro. I’ve never seen a white dad do this. Respect bro. This is how we create change,” one of the top comments reads.
Others criticized the father’s approach, with some objecting to the way he spoke to his son and others posting racist reactions to the video.“Bad dad actually… protect your kid from them from chimping out like that on him…,” one racist comment read.
“That boy's father just betrayed him. That boy will won’t ever trust his father again,” one social media user wrote.
