A 14-year-old high school freshman in St. Louis was shot and killed by a stray bullet while playing video games in his bedroom.
According to PEOPLE, D'Uwan Morgan, 14, was at home on October 8 when gunfire erupted outside. St. Louis County Police Department responded to a 911 call at around 6:10 p.m. and found Morgan had been shot at least once. The 14-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Morgan was inside his home when he was hit by a stray bullet from outside,” police said. "Several subjects in the area were shooting at each other when Morgan was struck.”
At least two bullets shattered Morgan's bedroom window.
“He was minding his business, doing nothing. Just sitting in his room,” a family member said. “And now he’s gone.”
Local residents said two groups of teenagers were arguing outside just before the shooting. After gunshots rang out, witnesses saw teens fleeing the scene. Bullet holes were found in several nearby homes, police said.
The case is being investigated as a homicide by the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons.
Family members and authorities are pleading with the public for help.
“You can stay anonymous,” Erica Davis, the victim's aunt, said. “Just help us. Help us get justice for D’Uwan.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been started to raise money for Morgan's funeral expenses.
Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact St. Louis County Police.
