A mass shooting in Birmingham, Alabama left four people dead and 17 others injured, per WVTM 13.
On Saturday (September 21), multiple shooters opened fire in Birmingham's entertainment district. Police said multiple people drove up to the Five Points South area, got out of their vehicle, and began shooting. The shooters then fled the scene.
Authorities have described the shooting as a targeted "hit" during which several innocent bystanders were caught in the crossfire. No charges have been filed in connection to the attack. Detectives said they are still “working to determine who was the intended target(s) of the shooting."
Victims killed in the shooting have been identified as Antria Holloman, 21, Tahj Booker, 27, Carlos McCain, 27, and Roderick Lynn Patterson Jr., 26.
Tahj's cousin, Ra'Derrius Everson, said he was standing in line with the victim on the night of the shooting. Everson was also shot and is currently in the ICU.
Gabriel Eslami was another victim injured in Saturday's shooting. Eslami is reportedly at home recovering from a bullet that hit his upper thigh while he was running away.
"It was a high school reunion. There is about, you know, for the high schools out there. We all had picnics prior and we all agreed to go out that night, and we all agreed on Hush. So when we got there, it was like catching up, you know, laughing, hanging out, talking. You can hear the music from inside playing," Eslami recalled.
"And there was a positive vibe. And then it wasn't," he added.
Many community members have payed their respects to the victims by leaving flowers, cards, and balloons at the scene.
"Many of the people coming to pay their respects didn't know any of the victims, but they are touched by the gravity of 21 people being shot here," one community member said.
