Everything about this story is *so* bizarre. Political analyst Adam Baron was traveling to Cairo via EgyptAir when he came across a strange Drew Barrymore interview. "The interview with Drew Barrymore in the EgyptAir in-flight magazine is, umm, surreal," Baron captioned a series of photos on Twitter. He followed up by tweeting at the actress to ask her if the strange profile was even real.
In the photos, you can read snippets of the interview, which, as Baron pointed out, definitely seem off. "Despite being unstable in her relationships most in her life, despite the several unsuccessful marriages and despite the busy life of stardom that dominated her life for several years, the beautiful American Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore has recently decided to temporary [sic] take a vacation to play her most crucial role as a mother," the article reads.
The magazine featured more questionable quotations, as well, such as: "I would only resume my career when I feel that my daughters can depend on themselves." Barrymore is also quoted as saying: "The truth is that I used to be very enthusiastic and nervous; but I found myself sympathizing with Olive and Frankie (Barrymore's daughters) and patiently tolerating their endless questions as if I'm growing a small plant waiting for its ripe delicious fruits after a few years."
Buzzfeed points out how odd these quotes sound because Barrymore frequently talks about how much she enjoys being a working mother. She was even the subject of a major feature for Working Mother Magazine in April 2018 titled "Why Drew Barrymore Believes Working Motherhood Is Like Being in a Healthy Relationship."
A spokesperson for Barrymore told the Huffington Post that the actress “did not participate” in an interview with EgyptAir’s Horus magazine. In addition to that, her team is “working with the airline PR team.” At first, EgyptAir stood by the interview, however, it's been confirmed that it is, indeed, fake. Aida Takla O’Reilly, the Hollywood Foreign Press Associations' former president, revealed she wrote the strange article.
O'Reilly insists that "the interview with Drew Barrimoor [sic] which took place in New York is genuine &far from fake." However, she also says that "we interview her several times," in the next sentence, so, it's unclear if she's saying she wrote the article based on an amalgamation of experiences she's shared with Barrymore over the years.
Either way, though, Barrymore's team has stated those are not her quotes and she did not participate in an interview with the airline.
