2017's newly transformed Miley Cyrus took her newest era of music to the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday (May 21), where she delivered a gorgeous rendition of "Malibu," the lead single from her as-yet-untitled album, with introductions by her father, Billy Ray, and little sister, Noah.
Donning an all-white ensemble and oversized hat, the 24-year pop titan went for a simple approach, bringing "Malibu" to life with a multi-person band and a backdrop with balloons similar to her music video. It wasn't long before balloons fell from the ceiling, giving viewers with yet another reminder of the G-rated aesthetics of Miley 2017. Towards the end of the performance, we also saw Miley choke up a bit, which makes the feel-good energy of "Malibu" that much more authentic. Even though she offered KIIS FM's Wango Tango with the debut performance of the breezy pop/rock track, her set on Sunday night saw Cyrus unleash the television debut of the song.
"Malibu," which serves as Cryus' ode to fiancé Liam Hemsworth, is just one of the 11 songs featured on her upcoming album, which the singer said would drop sometime around her birthday in October. We've yet to even begin summer, so expect to hear single number two sometime before the third quarter release of the LP. "Malibu" is currently available for download on iTunes.
If you want event more Miley, make sure you check her out when she hits our iHeartSummer '17 Weekend by AT&T at Fontainebleau Miami Beach in early June. The weekend-long event will feature live performances DJ Khaled, Halsey, the Backstreet Boys, Fifth Harmony and Noah Cyrus, with more special guests to be announced.
